The coastlines
- are among the most beautiful in Denmark. And the most varied!
Here you will find wooded escarpments and huge old trees lying
gnarled and tangled at the egde of the beach. A dramatic landscape,
formed by deposits of plastic clay. When the clay becomes saturated
with water, it slides downwards onto the beach. On its way, it forms
spectacular, terracelike plateaus, where the trees may stay standing
at perilous angles for several years before finally toppling into the sea.
Staksrode Skov on the coast of Vejle Fjord and the woods at As Hoved
are fine examples of such delightful Danish landscapes, which also
provide ideal habtats for a rich variety of wildlife and birds.
The beaches
The wild coastlines of the fjord with their toppled trees and stony
beaches are replaced by long stretches of white sandy beach along
the Kattegat coast. Every year, thousands of families visit the beaches
around Juelsminde, which are renowned for their excellent facilities
and crystal clear water. And it is not only in summer that the beaches
attract bathers and holidaymakers; they are also ideal for long
invigorating walks at any time of year.
This stretch of coast is a true paradise for beach boys and bathing
beauties, offering a unique combination of fine sandy beaches, water
sports, restaurants and beach-side cafés, where a refreshingly cold
beer or soft drink and a delightful meal await. There are plenty of
opportunities for having a good time - whether you are old or a
family with children.
