Svenskeskansen In the woods at Tønballe Skov near Snaptun lies Svenskeskansen, a fascinating fortification built in 1658 during Denmark's war with Sweden. It is said that the pine trees now growing on the escarpment originate from seed which the soldiers unwittingly brought with them in their kit.
Svenskeskansen effectively protected the mouth of Horsens Fjord. The two cannons mounted at the site are from the battleship Christian VII, which sank off Anholt during a storm in 1787.
